November 1999 Parent Meeting

New Camping Chairman
Mr. Kevin Young has agreed to take the responsibility as our Camping Chairman. His main duties will be to be on the lookout for new and exciting camping locations and to make the reservations to support our yearly calendar. If anyone has any new ideas as for camping locations / agendas, please see Kevin. And a big thanks to Kevin for stepping forward and filling this important position.

1999-2000 Calendar
The calendar for 1999 -2000 is now out. Please take the time to mark these dates on the your calendar. Thank-you.

Re-Charting
The Troop has received our year 2000 Re-Chartering packet so we will be updating our files. If you have not paid your dues, this would be a great time to do so and it will ensure your son is included in the year 2000 Re-Charting.

The Christmas Wreath Fund Raiser
The Christmas Wreath Fund Raiser has started. Each scout that was at the Wednesday meeting on November 10 meeting was given a small wreath to show and take orders. This wreath is one of the wreath that is to be sold. The price of the wreaths are the same as last year. $15.00 for the small (10” inside diameter) and $20 for the large (14” inside diameter).

Also the scouts (and parents) are asked to sign up for this weekend masses. We need to man each of the six doors for all of the masses. Several scouts are needed at each door.

Remember, scouts that sell at least 5 wreaths will be given $2.00 credit for each wreath they sell. Money to be used for scout related activities or equipment!!!

Thank you for supporting this effort. The money goes to provide the programs your son enjoys and lessen the cost of each individual campout that they go on.

Catholic Retreat
I am very proud of the 12 scouts (12 disciples??) that went on the Catholic retreat this past weekend. Troop 87 presence was noted in the mass as one of the two alterboys, both readers, petition reader, choir, gift barrier, also leading the rosary and in numerous service projects around Camp Miakonda. Way to go guys!! Attending the Catholic Retreat was one of the requirements for the Ad Alteri Dei Award.

Camp Alaska Training
Clothes is the subject of the Camp Alaska. This is a very important subject and it is given as the first one during the Parent Meeting so that parents will have the opportunity to look-out for the sales in the coming weeks and to work it into birthday/Christmas gifts.

Remember, Attendance is required for going on Camp Alaska. It is a major outing for the scouts and one they thoroughly enjoy (no kidding).

Winter Weekend I (a.k.a. W.W.I)
Our next campout will be the Winter Weekend I with the Troops from our district (Northwest) at Camp Miakonda (December 10, 11, and 12). We will be staying in cabins (Washington) and the theme for the week-end will be forestry and the scouts should be able to complete the Forestry merit badge. This should be another great campout.

Merit Badge Day
The students, faculty, and staff of Owens Community College will be conducting a merit badge day (Saturday January 8, 2000 from 9:00 to 3:00) for the Architecture, Computers, Electronics, Electricity and Weather merit badges. Space is limited and you must pre-register by calling (419) 661-7452 no later then December 18. There is no cost for this and lunch will be included.

Klondike Sled
The February Campout is the Klondike Derby. One requirement is for the scouts to make a sled. Council will be sending up the plans that each troop is to follow. Our ASPL Mike Brazeau will be in charge of the scouts, however, we will still need adult supervision and a place to work on the sleds. This activity will be done outside of the regular meeting.
